The Moonshine Trail started in 2007 and will be enjoying its 6th Anniversary on the 18th February.

The main idea behind this event is that it provides a unique ‘once a year’ access for competitors to Southland’s exceptional and distinctive Hokonui landscape, fostering grass roots sporting development and also enhancing tourism in the area.

Originally, the MLT Moonshine Trail was set up alongside the Hokonui Moonshine Festival, which is now held a week later on 25th February 2012. Each year it aims to provide competitors with a fun event focusing on the history and spirit of Southland.

There are categories suited to any age group from 15 years upwards for biking and running events.

Whether you run or cycle you'll be blown away by Southlands iconic Hokonui Hills. Compete in the BNZ Moonlighters 35km or Cycle Surgery Dead Keen 40km Mountain Bike or the Allan White Shoe Clinic Bootleggers 15km or the Hillbillies 5km run/walk. Come and take part in this once-a-year opportunity!
