The Whales Back Challenge is a Road Bike Race of approximately 240 km from Hanmer Springs through the Inland Road to Kaikoura, over what is known as the 'Whales Back', and return on the same course.

 

The trip is expected to take approximately 10 hours to complete and includes many tough climbs. This challenge is not for the faint hearted.

 

The Whalesback Challenge can be raced as an Individual, or in teams of two or four. Transition areas will be at Lyford Lodge and at the Kaikoura turn around.
